If you had your own reality show, what would it be called? What would it be about? Who would the main characters be?

The only reality show I have put any time into is The Amazing Race. I remember reading about a proposal for The Amazing Grace which was a show where Christian teams traveled the globe doing good works, volunteer projects of various kinds with different local ministries, as assigned by the show and each team had to raise their own funds in order to participate.

As I remember it, there was a lot of criticism about the project. But I think the idea has more than some merit. Instead of activities for the sake of activity, why not have activities that benefit others?

I think it would be great to see teams help provide clean drinking water by working on wells. Or spend a day working with students learning English. Or wash the clothes for the children of an orphanage. Whatever can be done in a helpful way by a short burst of intense energy could provide assistance for those ministries. And it is possible that their help could also be a source of moral support for those engaged in that ministry daily.

If it was prohibitive to travel the globe, I’m pretty sure the idea could be accomplished within the United States, too. Participants could be part of a blitz build for Habitat for Humanity, or stock a lot of shelves at a food pantry, or spend time reading with elementary kids in a Title I school, or serve lunch at a soup kitchen.

I don’t think I’ll be able to make it happen. I do think Oprah should put it on her new network. Wouldn’t that be cool?
